So many years we’ve enjoyed Yoplait! 50+ years and counting!
It all started in France in 1965…that year a group of farmers from six dairy co-ops came together for a greater good. These ‘dairy devotees’ saw the future and the need to get dairy to a population slowly leaving the rolling hills of farmland for the rows of suburbs and lines of urban streets. They took their French cows, their taste and love for yogurt and through a quick merge of the names of the two lead co-ops Yola and Coplait – Yoplait was born.
It was then that the brand with the tiny flower really began to blossom. After rapid initial success in France, the Yoplait flower quickly began to sprout up across the planet.
A history of innovation
From the day of its founding in 1964, Yoplait always positioned itself as an innovating brand.
• While other more traditional French yogurt producers were still selling their products in returnable glass containers, Yoplait introduced the disposable yogurt cup – an industry first.
• Yoplait was also the first yogurt with a creamy texture to have fresh fruits mixed in…suddenly anyone could eat strawberries in peak condition year round!
Today Yoplait has 14 different types of yogurt with more than 135 flavors to choose from.
In 1971, Yoplait crossed the Atlantic and established a presence in Canada and the United States. At about the same time, it introduced its first low-fat yogurt to France. During the 80s, Yoplait continued its expansion into Asia, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
20+ YEARS still loving it!
Coming to Trinidad in the early 1990s Yoplait was not at first well received as yogurt was not readily accepted by the market. Through determined efforts and many cultural changes, Yoplait is now the leader in an ever expanding category of yogurts in the T&T market. With the ‘Trinbagonian’ shift in purchasing to more health related products, Yoplait T&T has seen the rewards of its earlier efforts. With over 10 different types and over 30 different flavours, Yoplait will continue to lead the yogurt market all the while giving back to the community through continuous sponsorships and participations in local events, the support of local charities with our efforts to help in the Fight against Breast Cancer, and our eagerly anticipated Spin-to-Win competition.
